I scream for ice-cream!

Literally.

Well, not really. But, my roommate and I went crazy-creepy for ice-cream. Here's the scoop:

After pulling out of a store's parking lot, I approached a traffic light on red. It was late and my roommate and I were heading back to the dorms. We sat in the car, making plans for Friday night which included ice-cream or frozen yogurt. I don't understand how we didn't notice that we ended up directly behind a vehicle that said "Carmen's Ice-Cream." It wasn't until the traffic light turned to green that we finally noticed that an ice-cream truck was ahead of us, about to turn into one of the little streets. I turned to my roommate, "I want some ice-cream," I told her. Then jokingly I said, "We should follow it!" She paused and said, "Let's do it!" So we did.  We parked on a curb near the corner where the ice cream truck was at. We quickly got off, ran towards the ice cream truck, the truck stopped and a short man got off and went around the van before approaching us. When we finally reached the ice cream truck and we saw him approach us, we noticed that the man was holding a belt. It was odd. But, we were unknowingly being creepers. Just imagine a car parking at the corner of the street--at night--and suddenly you see two people get off and they begin running towards you. Totally creepy! To make up for it, we also bought them some candy. They were the king size Smarties, maybe if we ate them they would help us be "smarter" next time we decide to chase an ice cream truck.

Forever Has An End

To love you forever
are the words you gave to me that day

I won't give up, never
that's what I heard you say.

But forever has come to an end
It's become the new trend

How stupid could I have been
to have believed such foolishness

Living for Others

That was my goal for the week. Yet, I realized that we can approach "living for others" in several different ways. I began by doing more random acts of kindness each day, somedays sacrificing little things of my own in order to fulfill someone else's needs and wants. The challenge for me was not in taking action, rather it was difficult for me to fully understand what exactly a humble individual does in order to meet the expectations of "living for others." One can be hospitable and caring, but one can also be compassionate and sharing. This weekend, I dedicated more of my time to spending quality time with family and friends, and this weekend was perfect for that as it was the weekend of the Fiestas Patrias and the Canelo v. Mayweather fight.

But, throughout the week I gave rides to a neighbor who was planning to take a cab, and since I know how difficult it is for them to get around sometimes, I went out of my way to take them to some of their destinations. It felt good to do something for someone else.

Also, I did some service learning on Saturday morning in Eloy, Arizona. Driving out there was not necessarily the most fun, but helping distribute goodies to little kids and elderly people was definitely the most satisfying part of it all!

Living for others can be interpreted differently by different individuals, but it can be as simple as being a little less selfless and giving more of your time to others. The little things we do in life can go a long ways.

Most Like Me

How can a humble person be described? That was the question the professor asked on the first day of class for Writ 104 Person in Community. The example that a student provided to be a humble individual is Mother Theresa. We made a list and of that list I chose five words that were most like me; the five words that describe me most are leader, trusting, spiritual, respectful, and optimistic. However, of that list there were things that were not necessarily me, things that I could improve on. Those were: patience, balance, early riser, living for others, true happiness. There is one that I have chosen to work on for this week: living for others.
